"ATTITUDES" A solo exhibition by BARBARA MATHIS
Sat. May 31st - Sun. June 29th
Loft Artist member Barbara Mathis describes her solo exhibition opening in the East Gallery at 575 Pacific Street, Stamford: "These paintings were inspired by the fashion paintings done by Monet and Manet at a special exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Manet said: 'The latest fashion is absolutely necessary for painting. It's what matters most'. I decided that today's fashions are so diverse and certainly exemplify ATTITUDES of people. I started painting full size paintings of family, friends and people who I met just standing around yet who exuded ATTITUDE. To paraphrase Monet: 'I absolutely did not wish to make a portrait but simply a person of this time and era."
